Permit granted for test site in Ireland
RWE Renewables received the building consent for the AWE test hub, which is designed to eventually host a 24/7 automatic endurance demonstration of utility-scale airborne wind energy harvesting. Such a demonstration will be a breakthrough for the AWE sector and send a strong message to investors and potential partners. The first systems to be tested at the site is the “AP-3” commercial prototype developed by Ampyx Power. Testing will validate the safety and reliability of the AP-3 architecture and avionics while facilitating a demonstration of the full functionality required of a commercial system.
In the coming months, RWE will be contracting and constructing the site, while the Ampyx Power team works hard to get the AP3 systems ready for testing in the beautiful county Mayo.
